Each job is passed to one fencer who holds a QBCC licence. They measure, quote and build it.
Where slats work
Horizontal slats suit front fences, courtyard walls and screens around decks, bins, rainwater tanks and air-conditioning units. The gap between slats decides how much you can see through: tight gaps for privacy, wider gaps to let breeze and light pass.
Timber or aluminium
Timber slats, often hardwood or treated pine, look warm but need oiling to hold their colour. Powder-coated aluminium slats do not rot or warp and come in timber-look and plain finishes. Long timber slats can bow between posts, so spans should be kept modest or a centre support added.
Height and the street
A front fence is still a fence for approvals: above 2 metres needs a building approval in the Toowoomba region, and corner blocks have a visibility area near the corner where structures are limited to 1 metre without council approval. Check your block before settling on a height.
What the quote should list

Common questions
Do I need council approval for a fence?
In the Toowoomba region, a residential fence up to 2 metres above natural ground is self-assessable. Over 2 metres, or any fence that forms part of a pool barrier, needs a building approval. Corner blocks have a lower limit near the corner.
